The world 400m hurdles record-holder and double Olympic champion in the distance will compete over 200m and 400m in the Belgian capital
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone will race in the 200m and 400m at the Brussels Diamond League (September 13-14).
It will be the first time that the 25-year-old, who ran 50.37 to break her own world 400m hurdles record at the Paris Olympics, will have competed since the Games.
McLaughlin-Levrone claimed her second Olympic 400m hurdles gold medal in the French capital and was also part of the US women’s 4x400m team that stood on the top of the podium.
That quartet of Shamier Little, McLaughlin-Levrone, Gabby Thomas and Alexis Holmes clocked 3:15.27 at the Stade de France, which was the second fastest time in history behind the Soviet Union’s 3:15.17 from 1988.
McLaughlin-Levrone’s split of 47.71 was the fourth quickest in the 4x400m at any Games and demonstrated her incredible speed over one lap.
She will now get another chance to showcase that in the 200m and 400m at the Memorial Van Damme meet in Brussels.
Even though she has predominantly focused on the hurdles when it comes to major championships, McLaughlin-Levrone is also the second fastest US athlete over one lap, courtesy of the 48.74 she ran at Hayward Field last July.
That also currently puts McLaughlin-Levrone 12th on the 400m all-time list and if she does go any faster, then Sanya Richards-Ross’s US record of 48.70 will surely go.
McLaughlin-Levrone has a best of 22.07 in the 200m and she set that in Los Angeles back in May.
With Brussels being the last of the Diamond Leagues this season, it means the event will take place over two days.
That gives McLaughlin-Levrone and other athletes a chance to double up over certain events during the weekend.
