The iconic stadium in Eugene will hold the event for the fifth consecutive year
The host of the 2025 USATF Outdoor Championships (July 31-August 3, 2025) will be Hayward Field.
The four-day meet will crown each US champion across 22 disciplines and also serves as the qualifying event for the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo (September 13-21).
Since the USATF Outdoor Championships combined genders in 1976, Hayward Field has hosted it on 14 occasions, the first being in 1986.
Over the decades the USATF Outdoor Championships have moved from Indiana and Iowa to California and Louisiana but it now looks likely to stay in Oregon for the foreseeable future.
Since Hayward Field was renovated for the 2022 Worlds, a lot of championships records have fallen.
This year’s edition, which doubled up as trials for the Paris Olympics, saw an incredible 10 athletes put themselves on the roll of honour.
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone led the way with what was then a world 400m hurdles record of 50.65, before she improved that again in Paris with 50.37 to retain her Olympic crown.
Elsewhere in Oregon, Noah Lyles sprinted to 19.53 (0.5) in the 200m, Bryce Hoppel clocked 1:42.77 over 800m and Cole Hocker secured a time of 3:30.59 in the 1500m, before going on to claim Olympic glory in the French capital.
Grant Holloway and Masai Russell were two other track athletes who followed up their championships records – 12.92 (0.8) in the 110m hurdles and 12.25 (0.7) over 100m hurdles – in Eugene with Olympic gold medals.
Nikki Hiltz’s 3:55.33 over 1500m, Valerie Constien’s 9:03.22 in the 3000m steeplechase and Elle St. Pierre’s 14:40.34 over 5000m were also the quickest times ever recorded at the USATF Outodoor Championships.
Valarie Allman was the only field athlete to set a championships record, with 70.89m in the discus. It was therefore no surprise to see Allman retain her Olympic title in Paris.
Meanwhile, the 2025 USATF Indoor Championships will be held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island in New York (February 21-23).
It will be the first time since 2019 that the venue on Staten Island has hosted the championships.
