The teenage sprint sensation will be targeting the Australian under-18 100m record of 10.27 in Brisbane
Gout Gout, the teenage sprint superstar that has garnered global attention, will compete over 100m at the upcoming Australian All Schools Championships (December 6-9).
The 16-year-old, who has already been compared to Usain Bolt at a similar age, will be targeting the Australian under-18 100m record of 10.27 – held by Sebastian Sultana – in Brisbane this weekend.
If Gout can achieve that feat then he will hold both Australian under-18 100m and 200m records.
Last month the teenager went fourth on the U18 200m all-time list, courtesy of his 20.29 over at the Queensland All Schools Track and Field Championships.
Not only was that good enough for Gout to claim the national under-20 record over half a lap but he became the fastest Australian in the 200m since 1993.
For Gout to be the Australian 100m under-20 record-holder, he’ll have to run quicker than 10.15, which Jake Doran clocked in 2018.
Gout first caught people’s attention two years ago when he ran 10.57 for 100m and has since improved his personal best by just short of three tenths of a second.
It’s over 200m where he has made the biggest impact though – this past summer Gout claimed a superb silver medal over half a lap at the World Under-20 Championships in Lima, placing behind South Africa’s Bayanda Walaza.
According to The Guardian, Gout and his coach Di Sheppard, through their mutual sponsor Adidas, have also secured an invite to join Noah Lyles and his coach Lance Brauman in Florida for a few weeks in January.
