The Brit will make the trip across the pond for ATHLOS NYC and ends her 2024 track and field season in the Big Apple
Daryll Neita has joined ATHLOS NYC – a women’s-only track event created by co-founder of Reddit Alexis Ohanian – and will finish off her season over 100m in New York City.
The Brit finished fourth in the Olympic 100m final – the best result by a British woman in 64 years – and fifth in the 200m at the Paris Games.
She also anchored Great Britain’s 4x100m relay team – the other three in the final being Dina Asher-Smith, Imani Lara-Lansiquot and Amy Hunt – to a silver medal, with the quartet narrowly finishing behind the US.
Added to that, Neita claimed silver over 200m and gold in the 4x100m at the European Championships.
The 30-year-old’s season 100m best of 10.92 came during the heats at the Olympics and she went sub-11 seconds during every single round in the French capital.
She will face some familiar faces from Paris at ATHLOS NYC and goes up against Marie-Josée Ta Lou-Smith, Brittany Brown, Zoe Hobbs, Celera Barnes and Candace Hill at the Icahn Stadium on September 26.
AW caught up with Neita after the Brussels Diamond League and she stated that it’s been “the best season of my career so far”.
“I was so close to an individual Olympic medal in the 100m and that was such a life changing thing,” said Neita. “It just really showed me that I’m in the mix and that I’m so close to that [global] podium now. I want to keep proving to myself that I can go to the very end of a long season. I don’t want to tap out and I’m proud of myself for doing that.”
On becoming the highest placed British female athlete over 100m at the Olympics since Dorothy Hyman in 1960, Neita added: “It’s history and it’s something to definitely be proud of. It’s a big thing. It’s not easy to place like that in these type of finals but it will require more work to get the medals next year.
“Over the last few seasons I felt like I left a lot of championships disappointed but in Paris I was very proud of my achievements. I proved to myself that I could perform when it matters and that was a big thing that I needed to deal with. I’m now very confident ahead of the World Championships.”
Neita will be one of the favourites in the 100m at ATHLOS NYC and out of the field only Ta Lou-Smith has gone quicker this season.
Even though it is late in the season we could potentially see some quick times, with the women’s 100m stadium record being the 10.83 that Aleia Hobbs set two years ago.
A total of 36 athletes will compete at ATHLOS NYC and it will feature the 100m, 200m, 400m, 100m hurdles, 800m, and 1500m.
The purse for the women’s-only invitational is: First place: $60,000; Second place: $25,000; Third place: $10,000; Fourth place: $8,000, Fifth place: $5,000; Sixth place: $2,500.
Grammy Award winning artist Megan Thee Stallion will headline during the evening, D-Nice will DJ and each athlete will get their own walk-on song.
